SupernovaI might never watch
American Idol again.
No, contrary to what you're probably thinking, I'm actually more than satisfied with this year's results. Last night, when they announced David Cook as the winner, I let out a scream of ecstasy & tears soon began to well up in my eyes. I was shaking uncontrollably as I was overwhelmed by feelings of both happiness & disbelief. As much as I had hoped for this over the past few months, it really wasn't what I had expected; in fact, I've been quite upset since the beginning of the week knowing the end of this
Idol season is near & that Cook might lose. Things got even worse on Tuesday night when (for some odd reason) the judges clearly favoured the other David, even though I thought both sang well (of course, I enjoyed Cook more, if only for the free spirit & energy he exerted during the show =P). And when it was announced at the beginning of last night's finale that one David got 56% of the total votes, I was so sure they were referring to Archuleta...
Like pretty much everyone else, my love affair with David Cook began with his performance of "Hello" during top 16 week. I'm not even gonna go into depths describing how awesome it is, it's been said many times, many ways, you just have to watch. =P From then on, he's managed to amaze me week after week, as he continued to outperform & reinvent himself time & again. For the first time since I began watching
Idol (which has been quite a few years =P), I was looking forward to WHAT a contestant had to sing as opposed to HOW they'd sing. This was beyond vocal abilities, it was about raw, genuine talent - & he had more of that than anyone else I've ever seen on the show. His ability to make every song his own, regardless of age & style, is unmatched. Before this, Carrie Underwood was my all-time favourite
Idol alumni (I still love her...& look where she is now!!)...but even before this season was brought to an end, I knew for sure I've grown to love David Cook more. He's inspired me not only as an entertainer, but also as a personable, thoughtful human being (just watch his interaction with his family & fellow contestants & you'll see what I mean...even after he won!!).
This was a truly enjoyable season, possibly the best one as many have claimed. It wasn't filled with powerhouse singers, but instead, it had singers of many different styles that showcased the diversity of the music spectrum. It wasn't about singing loud or holding on to long notes, but really connecting with the audience in your own unique way. And to have Cook go home with the title was just the perfect end to such a memorable few months (rewatching the last 10 minutes of the finale gives me chills). So how can I possibly top that?? And for that reason, this could very well be the last season of
Idol that I'll follow religiously. I might still watch here & there, but nothing, I don't think, will ever capture me the way Cook & Co. did this year. And now I'm sad that it's over...=( (lol)
I already made a pact with fellow diehard Cook fan Eleanor to see him in concert (solo, not the stupid
Idol tour <rolls eyes>) though, so looking forward to that...xD And the album too (already bought his single on iTunes this morning...my very first iTunes purchase xD)!!
