No PandoraWent down to the basement just now to grab some clean underwear from the laundry room...& just as I was about to go up the stairs, I noticed a silver box inside a bookcase, hidden beneath a pile of junk. It was a box that I had forgotten about, but when I saw it, I was reminded of what it carried & possibly why I'd blocked its existence. It was a box that I held dear during my younger years, a box that contained mementos from my closest friends in high school - Xmas grams, Xmas cards, birthday cards, stickie pics (oh dear Lord xD), secret notes, even some presents that managed to fit themselves into that overcrowded metallic casing. For a second there I dreaded opening it, as I knew it might unleash some demons that I had tried so hard to subdue over the years. But in the end, I opened it...
And I was surprised. Surprised by the sheer volume of articles inside, & by the amount of people who cared about me dearly during those five years of my life. I've always considered my high school years life-changing, a period where I had to bring out the best in me to fight through the worst of times. Having seen what was inside this box though, made me realize that maybe it wasn't so bad after all. At least there was a handful of people who stood by me rain or shine, & for that I'm forever grateful. Thank you once again, wherever you are. I dare not dream to be so privileged ever again, but just knowing that at one point in time I had the world behind me is enough to keep me going.
I put the box back where it belongs, hidden beneath a pile of junk inside a bookcase. Some things are meant to stay exactly where you found them.
