Tarnished SilverSERIOUSLY DISAPPOINTED. Having just finished watching the women's final at the Australian Open half an hour ago, I'm still annoyed by the outcome. First off, I think I was one of the very few people who actually rooted for Mauresmo instead of Henin-Hardenne, so I'm happy that she
won; the problem is, she didn't win the right way. She was robbed of a championship point, robbed of the moment when she falls on her knees & realizes that she has outplayed her opponent. I've always been a fan of Henin-Hardenne also, what an amazing player of such resilience (to come back after losing the first set in 2 consecutive matches?? Quite the feat). But for her to quit without a proper explanation (she was clearly not injured physically) took away some of my respect for her. I'm sure she must've felt pretty darn sick in order for her to decide that she's willing to surrender the title after working so hard to get to the finals. It's very sad & I feel bad for her too. But to think that this is Mauresmo's first Grand Slam & that she doesn't a final score to show, is a shame - & she was only 4 games away.
Interesting how Mauresmo has won 3 of her matches in this tournament by default. I jokingly said that she must've placed a curse on her opponents, lol. Either way, Mauresmo had a great run & I think her title is more than deserving. I believe that she would've beaten everyone anyway even without all the retirements. I can't wait to see what she has to offer for the rest of the year (& may I just say that she has the best tennis dress out of everyone??).
Tomorrow's men's final better be good, 'cause this one just sucked. =P And I'm gonna sleep early & then wake up at 3:30 just to catch it live. It'll be my last night of staying up after a week of very little sleep...=P GO ROGER!!
P.S. Oh & Kimmy, get well soon!!
P.P.S. ...& I want
this. =P
