Memo
Notes to self:
You need to stop getting home after 12.
Games are only meant for playgrounds & arcades.
You have new-found disrespect towards a certain group of people.
The opening theme of Sex and the City gets annoying after about 3 listens.
You need to stay away from chocolates.
You should restrain from using "descriptive" language such as "big fat dots" in your lab notes.
Your life really does rock.

Picture Perfect
Just when my day was starting to turn sour, my lab partner (the one who's
married) sent me a photo of her & her husband from their trip to Niagara Falls this past weekend. Awww. xD (He's like a giant compared to my petite lab buddy over here, heh heh...but still, very cute!!)

Unhappy Meal
I'm never eating McDonald's fries again. EVER. Let's start from the beginning, shall we??
So tonight, after dinner, I went over to Fu's place for some dessert alongside a serving of the documentary Super Size Me. Now I'm sure all of you have heard about it, but really, everyone needs to see it. It's life-changing. The movie has left me laughing, grossed out, & sympathetic at the same time. Morgan Spurlock, we salute you.
Aside from the drastic changes that our director/"actor" (test subject?? guinea pig?? VICTIM?? =P) himself had to go through, what really hit the top of our disgust meter was one of the DVD featurettes titled "The Smoking Fry". We believe this was made few months after the documentary was released (from his haircut & the fact that he's back in shape), & what he did was he brought several items from MickeyD's, & then placed each of them into an enclosed glass jar. He then documented the progress of how these sandwiches/fries rotted throughout the weeks, &...I don't want to spoil what happens after TEN WEEKS, but let's just say that the words "some things never change" have been proven correct for one particular food item (just when you thought rotting was bad...what's even grosser is what DOESN'T rot, eeek)...<shivers>
Anyway, after the movie, both of us were starving, so (despite the snowstorm) we decided to drive out to get some food. Originally we wanted Popeye's, but since it was already 12 when we got there, it was closed. So we drove around a bit more, only to end up realizing that McDONALD'S WAS THE ONLY THING OPEN. Oh the irony. We vehemently rejected the idea of eating there, considering the circumstances. In fact, I don't think I'll be eating there at all for a few weeks, maybe even months. Either way, we ended up at Burger King's drive thru, & something else funny happened there which I'm now too embarrassed to share, hahahaha. I can be such a retard at times. xD
P.S. On my way home, I sang along to Ayu's "CAROLS" as it was playing on my CD player. How fitting, I must say. Oh how I wish you could hear me sing & meaning every word of that song...

Lather, Rinse, Repeat
Believe it or not, I actually came downtown today (currently at Gerstein) to study for my last exam (which is on the 17th). As I've mentioned
before, this one should be a breeze, since I did well on the midterm AND a lot of things taught in the 2nd half was repeated materials. But as it turns out, I really do have VERY little to study: learnt plasmids in nucleic acids, had my exam last Thurs. Bacterial replication?? Did that in 311, tested 2 days ago. Even bacteriophage, which wasn't explictly covered in any of my courses, I learnt about them hands on in my MGB lab. So that leaves me with maybe 6 or 7 lectures that I really need to go over. And I have four days. Why did I come down here again?? =P Ah well, it never hurts to study hard. An A+ in this course is totally doable (& is exactly what I wanted to begin with)...& thankfully I was smart enough to bring my gym clothes, so now I can spend my time at the gym instead. W00t to washboard abs!!
On a completely unrelated note, I don't know whether it's because I've been sleep-deprived since the beginning of October or what, but my eyes have been extremely sensitive to light these few days. As I was driving to STC today, the sunlight hurt my eyes so much I was squinting 'till I was pretty much asleep. And it isn't even a clear day - the clouds have already blocked out a lot of the light. I had to put on sunglasses AND lower the windshield flap (I don't know its technical name =P) in order to be able see properly. This is really not good. I hope it'll go away as soon as I start getting enough sleep again. Which won't last long anyway considering that this year my Xmas break is only two weeks...<sigh>

As The Story Unfolds
Woke up at 7 this morning to download & listen to Ayu's new album...gave it a run from top to bottom, & here's a list of the songs (excluding the intro & interludes) grouped by level of preference. Let's see how they'd change in a month or so...;)
I really love: "Moments"
I love: "About You", "GAME", "my name's WOMEN", "HOPE or PAIN"
I really like: "walking proud", "CAROLS", "HONEY", "winding road"
I like: "Liar", "INSPIRE", "Replace", "Humming 7/4"
I could care less about: "HAPPY ENDING"
EDIT: Already different after one day. =P

Recipe For Success
One stack of nucleic acids course notes
One bowl of chicken nuggets
One bottle of beverage (preferably water)
One teaspoon of determination (aka the will to win)
Few sprinkles of guilt (for slacking off last year)
One tablespoon of anticipation (for Ayu's new album & all the partying after this week)
One slice of motivation (more or less redundant if you already have the two above)
One upbeat, "pump me up" song on continuous replay (this year, it's "INSPIRE")
Few episodes of Friends
Lots & lots of support from your real friends
One person to keep you smiling
One reason to keep you going ("Because I can.")

Driven
Just last night, I was telling my friend how this year, despite that I have two jam-packed exams one right after the other, AND that they are happening in less than a week, I don't feel stressed at all. What a drastic change from
exactly a year ago, where I almost had a breakdown just 'cause I felt so hopeless & helpless. It's all about the preparation, really...this year I've worked so hard, everything that comes back is positive: good marks, good friends, good attitude. So now, I'm more confident than ever. But I'm still making sure that I have my feet on the ground by studying hard (& believe it or not, I'm actually enjoying the studying process, lol). Sometimes, I scare myself by turning into a totally different person when I want something bad...what happened to the lazy me?? =P

Odds
It's time for a luck of the draw
again...here's hoping that history won't repeat itself. =P (This time I only want one of them - upper right. And yes I know they're all ugly, but come on, it's Ayu)

[MY STORY - First Edition]

Hello Again
I'm at Kelly right now, desperately searching & frantically reading articles so that I can at least have an idea on what to write my 311 essay proposal on. On my way here though, I saw this (somewhat creepy) man that's always at the gym whenever I'm there. And now that I'm sitting here in the computer lab on the ground floor, I see another guy who is also a regular at the gym. When did UofT's campus become so small??
P.S. Is it just me, or printing is cheaper here at Kelly than at Gerstein??

Breakthrough
Wow, I've learnt so much about myself tonight. And to top it off, I didn't need any help...I figured it out all on my own. Ahhh it feels so good to finally be clear-minded; no more wondering about what I want, what I need, & what I can do. I'm freed, from the unnecessary pain & suffering that I often put myself through; I'm relieved, knowing that my problems are only an illusion; & I'm happy, because now I'm capable of anything. =D
I guess it's time to change the title of this blog...;) (Nah I like it too much...it's too cool, hehe)
