When Art Imitates LifeI don't think many of you would've heard of the movie
The Reckoning, since right now most people are either talking about
The Passion of The Christ (which I DO want to see...I just don't think I can handle the images & will breakdown midway) or er,
Starsky & Hutch (no comment, lol). Anyway, the reason why I'm bringing this up is because I actually read the book in OAC. Based on the novel
Morality Play by Barry Unsworth, it's a story of a runaway priest who meets a troupe of actors on his fleeing path. He ends up joining them, & together they arrive in a town that is haunted by the recent murder of a young boy. A mute woman is accused of the crime, yet she strongly proclaims her innocence through her actions. Out of greed, the team of actors then decide to re-enact the whole story through hearsay, only to find themselves more & more involved into the crime itself. The truth surfaces, but not without cost...
I don't know about the movie, but the book is excellent. At first, none of the people in my class liked it...'cause the author pretty much spent 7 chapters (out of 15) to introduce the characters, setting, mood, etc. The good stuff doesn't come until chapter 8 or so, & the pace really picks up from there, to a point where I thought was a tad bit rushed near the end. Either way, it's a great read. You should check it out if & when you have time. =)
